Post Nasal Drip

Hi Professor,

My two boys are constantly struggling with Post Nasal Drip. I am using Chamiflor nose spray on them. The 3 year old coughs a lot at night and I gave him Benylin last night. The 10 month old is on anti-biotics for Tonsilitis, this is now a week, but he also has this nasty cough. I am treating this with Mucospect. The 3 year old also has Ezcema. All of these allergies/ailments run in my husband''s family.

Is there a possibility that they may outgrown this?

Is there another medication I can use?

I am feeling a little down as I exclusively breast fed them both for 5 months, hoping to boost their immune systems, but I really don''t see the results. My 3 year old misses one day of school per week because of some illness. Both boys are on Probiotics and vitamins.

Let us start with your 3 year old who has eczema. The chances of him being allergic is very high especially as his Dad has allergies.Your son probably has allergic rhinitis and asthma. He should be seen and treated by a paediatric allergist. There are experts in all the main centres in SA.
Your baby appears to have more of an infective problem with him having tonsillitis. Keep his nose clear by using Salex nose drops morning and evening. Give him a probiotic such as Reuteri infant drops 5 drops once daily for 10 days per month through winter to boost his immunity. He will also benefit from using Creche Guard once daily through winter.
