Q.

Poor eater

Good day, my son is 2years and 2 months, we struggle to get him to eat solids, he only wants to drink milk and tea all the time. Whenever we eat we have a plate form him to eat with us,and then he only takes a bite or two? When we take the milk away, he cries for milk? What should we do? we tried everything....

At his age your son only needs about 2 cups of milk a day, plus his regular fluids such as water, possibly rooibos tea once a day and diluted fruit juice once a day.His total fluid requirements are about just about 1 litre per day. Your son must join you at the table for all meals.keep mealtimes as peaceful as you can. Put his food in front of him and allow him to feed himself using a spoon. Do not watch him and say nothing about him eating or not eating. If he leaves food on his plate do not say anything, he will eat what he needs. He must only get the amounts of fluid that he needs per day. If he starts to cry just ignore him and if he really starts to perform you will have to be firm and put him in his room until he is quiet. Do not let him dictate what he wants.
