Q.

Poo

Hi Dr,
My friends 19 month old girl''s stools (not runny or overly frequent) has been very green for the last two or three days. Yesterday she said it has a little transparent mucous in it aswell. She described today''s nappy as green and porridge like. What could this be?

This may be normal or may be the first signs of a gastro infection. Another common cause at this age is too much fruit and fruit juice in the diet. Ask your friend to stop all fruit and fruit juice for 3 days and see if her child's stools return to normal.
