Hi doc

My son has been ill with cold like symptoms for about 3 weeks now. Not much of a runny nose - more congested and a bad cough. Sometimes his chest is wheezy. He has a fever that comes and goes but is present every day. The fever ranges from 38.5 - 39.8 and comes and goes. My son has had little appetite. He never seemed very ill - but was obviously not healthy either. Iinitially I thought the cough was from a post nasal drip and waited 10 days for the cold to pass. Then he had no fever for 24 hours so I thought he is better. He got a fever this morning again and I took him to my gp. She said he defin has pneumonia. His left side seemed clear but she was very sure that his right lung is infected. (she is a very capable gp). She perscribed augmentin and bronchoped and said I must phone immediately if he gets any worse or if the fevers dont stop after 48hours of taking the antibiotic. She was considering admitting him to hospital and said she would if we dont see an improvement soon. (I have 2 other young children at home)

My question is this: I did not realise my son was so ill (he has a unusually high pain threshold) and I would like to know how waiting so long to seek medical help will affect him now.

I feel terrible for leaving it so long.

I have same situation with my 2.5yr old, has had what i think is post nasal drip now for 3 wks, a bit of a clear runny nose, a cough only in the morning which goes away and sometimes the nose seems stuffy, he is otherwise fine, never had an appetite anyway, but does stl eat and play normal, no fevers though?

Dr what do you think, should i take him to the GP as it does not seem to be going away?
