Q.

Pls help boy of 2 yrs wakes up 6-8 x per night

Hi doc
Trust you are well. Doc my boy of 2 yrs sleeps with us in our room because he refuses to sleep in his own room because his little baby sleeps with us in our room (3months old). He wakes up 6-8 x per night and starts to cry..? He used to be a very good independant sleeper, but since the baby was born he does not sleep well at all. He just wakes up and moan/cry. He is very restless and can''t seem to stay asleep. I started giving him some melatonin (solal) but it doesn''t seem to work. I am worried because he used to sleep in his own room and through the night but the last 12 weeks his sleeping got worse and worse and i am scared that he is getting into a habit of waking during the night. I want to move him back to his own room also.
Pls give me your thoughts on this one.

You have set out your question very well. It seems to me that your 2 year old is seeking attention and wants to be treated like his new baby sibling, waking up for feeds and seeking attention. He was already an independent sleeper prior to tthe arrival of your new baby. He must go back to his room and stay there. Every time he appears he must be led back to his bed. If he starts to cry and perform you will need to apply the controlled crying method[see on Google] this is tough to do but will produce results after one or two nights if you do not give in.
