Q.

Persisten ear infection

My daughter who is now 27 months old had grommets put in at 23 months. in May she had a severe ear infection, where a yellow thick smelly substance was leaking continuously out of her ear. I took her to the doctor who prescribed Augmentin ES antibiotic and it would wonderfully. 2 weeks ago the same thing started but this time in both ears. I took her back to the doctor who prescribed the same thing again, however even after completing the course of antibiotic her ear is still leaking. When cleaning her ear the substance is very thick and gel like. What can it be? Should I be seriously concerned and where to do I go from here.

The question here is are the grommets still in place and if not where is this discharge coming from? The only person that should deal with this is an ENT surgeon, so you need to go back and a proper diagnosis of the current problem is essential.Make certain as well that an ear swab is taken to determine the kind of bacteria responsible for this infection.
