Pale with rings under the eyes

Hi Dr
Me again....3 year old tube fed, recently with dysentery that he seems over now thank goodness.

I have another question for you - Tayden goes extremely pale at times, with deep dark rings under his eyes. It is not related to his sleeping (sleeps well - 2hr nap during day and +-11hr at night) and he gets a daily multivitamin as well.

I was wondering whether it could be related to his eating and perhaps his blood sugar levels? At the time that he is pale he is usually quite " pap"  and quiet and although l have noticed he does sometimes have this appearance before coming down with illness, he sometimes has it for " no reason"  as well.

Should l be concerned about this or is it normal?

This appearance can be normal in that it sometimes runs in families. However one of the most common medical causes for a child being pale with dark rings under the eyes is anaemia. Tayden needs to be carefully checked to make sure that he is not anaemic. There are several possible causes for anaemia and iron deficiency is just one of these.
