Q.

Overweight toddler?

My daughter is 23 months old, 94cm tall en weighs 16.7kg. Birth weight 2.995kg. She has gained 1kg in the last month. She is taller and a lot heavier than all her friends (most of them weighing 12kg). Should I take her to a paeditritian? Or maybe a dietitian? Or am I over sensitive about her weight? Her weight graph is now climbing rapidly and over the suggested curve. I would appreciate your advise.

Paediatrician

Both your daughter's height and weight are far above the top lines on the normal growth charts. She is truly an exceptionally big child. However her weight is in keeping with her height and she does not actually appear to be overweight as such when her height is brought into the picture. Nevertheless her growth has beeen so exceptional that it is worthwhile seeing a paediatrician just to be sure that all is well and that she is simply following a family characteristic in her growth pattern.
