Overweight baby - please help??

My daughter is 7 months old and weighs 13kg. She is definately overweight according to her growth charts, even though she is a tall baby. However, she is eating quite a bit less than the reccommended amount - I have her on Lactogen and the tin suggests that she has 4 bottles a day of 225ml. I am feeding her 4 bottles of 175ml which she is quite happy with, but still she is quite overweight. I recently started her on solids, and she has a few teaspoons of cereal in the morning and about half a small jar of purity vegetables in the afternoon.

I took her to a GP a while back and she suggested that I have her tested for an underactive thyroid. Is this common in babies? What are your thoughts - I am really getting annoyed at everyone including strangers accusing me of overfeeding my child, and I am also worried about her being obese at a later age.

Your baby daughter is really significantly overweight. Her weight is completely off the top of the growth chart. You do not give her height, but I presume that even if she is a tall baby, her weight is still out of proportion to her length. She seems to be on a very modest diet so she is not overeating. It would be best to see a paediatrician at this stage as she would benefit from certain tests such as a thyroid test as well as a blood sugar. The paediatrician may want other tests done as well.
