The average weight for a 13 year old boy is 47kg, so you can see that your son is almost double this weight. He is seriously overweight. In most children who are overweight or obese, overeating is the problem. It is seldom that another cause is found. Having said this, there are cases where a medical condition is the reason for a child being obese. In the first instance your son should be checked up to make sure that he is not diabetic and that his thyroid tests are normal. His doctor may suggest other tests as well. If all is found to be normal he should be seen by a dietician for advice.
