Q.

Nuts for a 3yr old

Hi Doc,

Every morning before my 3yr old son goes to school I give him some dried fruit and a few nuts, I would just like to know if it is okay to give nuts to a young child.

It is alright to give your son nuts as long as he has never shown any sign of an allergic reaction to nuts. Having said that most schools are now encouraging a nut free environment because so many children are allergic to nuts these days. For this reason it would be best not to give your son nuts to take to school.
