Your son has now reached the stubborn stage about sitting on the toilet. The problem is that he is due to go to school in a few months time.Stubborn children will learn to sit on the toilet if you reward them with praise and attention when they do sit on the toilet. A star reward system works well at this age. Give him a star every time he sits on the toilet and after he has collected 5 stars he can get a small reward.Another trick is to negotiate an agreement with him. Say 'You go and sit on the toilet and I will have a nice milkshake or ice cream waiting for you when you come out'.This works well and there are no threats or reprimands. He will soon start sitting on the toilet by himself.
