Q.

Not chewing food

Dear Dr.

My little girl of 15months is suddenly not chewing her food before she swallows anymore. She recently cut her first 4 molars, and didn' t eat much during the time. She didn' t even eat mashed food during this teething period. But now she just swallows everything she eats. How can I get her to chew again?

Thank you.

Your little girl is going through a very common stage seen with many children of this age where she prefers soft food for a while. It will help to feed her small amounts of food at a time and to keep her food finely mashed. Once her teeth are through properly she should start chewing well again.
