Q.

Nose bleeds &  sinus infections

Dear Doctor

I have 2 daughters- my 7 year old suffers fron nosebleeds, even now in winter. She can be playing and it starts, sleeping or even sitting still, they just start randomly - what could be causing it?

Secondly, my youngest will be 3yrs old in September and has just has her 8/9th sinus infection this year! Is there anything in particular that causes it or something we can do to fix it? She is in nursery school and was breasted for almost a year as a baby.

Any advice for both my daughters will be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

Your eldest daughter should be seen by an ENT specialist about her nose bleeds. She may have a small area that is causing this bleeding in the membrane lining her nose and this may need cauterisation.
Your almost 3 year old should also see the ENT specialist as it is most ususual for such a young child to be so troubled by sinus infection. In the meantime use Sterimar nasal spray twice daily to try to clear her nose.
