Nose bleed

Hi there, I hope you are well Doctor.
I hope you can help. I have a healthy 11 year old boy. For the past year or two he has been getting nose bleeds maybe once a week sometimes more. It just starts at school or when early in the morning when he sleeps. Yes he does pick his nose. He has no allergies. We lived in JHB when it started and now we are in DBN. Should I take him to my GP. If not what should I do, look out for and tell him why he is getting it.
Thanks so much and have a fabulous day.

This is a good question regarding a common problem. Your son is not on any nose sprays so that cause can be ruled out. Often children with nose bleeds bleed from a specific spot in the membrane lining the inside of the nose called 'Little's area' This is where the blood vessels may be quite fragile and bleed easily. It would be best to ask an ENT specialist to see your son.As part of the examination your son should have a full blood count done to make sure that all his blood cells are normal.
