Q.

Normal?

Please can you tell me if it is normal for a 2 yr old boy to not want to touch his penis?
I was having a discussion with a few other mothers who have boys and they are talking about how to handle the situation of their sons playing with their privates. I know it is normal and healthy behavior for children especially toddlers to explore their anatomy which is why I am concerned about my son. I am trying to encourage him to wash on his own. Teaching him to wash under arms, neck and all the rest. When I ask him to wash his penis he touches it ever so slightly and then continues with the rest of the washing. I am worried that something has happened and that is why he does not want to touch or have me touch. Is it strange behavior?

This is not strange behaviour and there is no need for concern. Keep on encouraging him to wash himself but remember that he is very young still.
