Q.

No appetite

Hi Doc

My 3 year old son is hyper active. He is all over the place. He also does not eat very well, it''s a mission to get him to eat a proper meal. We have tried making foods that he likes but that does not help. He weighs around 10kg. He also has a constipation problem where he is on Movicol twice a week. Is there anything I can give him to increase his appetite? Can you recomend a meal replacement similar to Ensure?
People say that he is probably burning the food (whatever little he eats) as he is so active, I''m not so sure...
Your advice will be highly appreciated.

The average weight for a boy of 3 years is 14.5kg. Your son's weight is below the lowest possible level on the children's weight chart for boys of 3 years! It is unusual for an active child to have such a poor appetite as he does. It is important to take him to be seen by a paediatrician so that he can be properly diagnosed and if necessary placed on the correct treatment.
