Q.

Nine year old' s muscle pains

Since yesterday my son has been complaining that he feels sore all over. It started with his neck (I tested for the kind of stiffness my doctor explained for meningitis, but his neck isn' t stiff at all), then he said his throat was sore, but he is complaining most especially about his legs. Today he made little pain noises every time we went up or down steps. He does not have a fever or a headache. I asked him tonight to try and explain to me again how he is feeling and he said " I just feel sore and weak and tired."  Are these growing pains? When should I start worrying? Should I take him to the doctor tomorrow?

These are not growing pains. Your son may be developing a viral illness such as flu. If he continues to complain about these pains and you do not notice an obvious reason, it would be best to ask your doctor to see him.
