Q.

Night time gas?

Goodmorning doc. I simply don' t know what to do. I exclusively breastfed for 4.5 months then started topping up with formula during the day.now during the day my little girl, who is 5 months today sleeps well, she takes a few short naps during the day and is happy and content and i never even know when she wakes up i' ll walk in and see she' s up,but night time is totally different, from 8pm till 6am she wakes atleast 6 to 10 times. She curls her body puts her bum in the air and makes funny noises, seems like winds.bare in mind i breastfeed her at night, the only way i can get her to calm down is to put her on my breast again and then within a few minutes she' s fast asleep, she basically just dummies on my breast.but why so much gas at night?because during the day everything is fine. She hasn' t slept for more than two hours at night at a time since she was a newborn. Ek is moedeloos dokter...

This sounds like a lactose intolerance problem.Babies with lactose intolerance may react to breast milk as well.Try her on a lactose free formula such as NAN LF or S26 LF or a soya formula such as Isomil1.You will need to stop breastfeeding for a few days to see if she improves on the new formula only.
