night terrors

my son is 1.5 years old and has suffered with two very bad night terrors in the last two weeks. I googled the difference between nightmare and night terror and it is definately a night terror. Please tell me if there is something i can do or give him to make it better. My son does not have sleeping problems and has one nap a day from 12:00pm to 3 pm and then goes to bed at 8pm. We did sleep training when he was 11 months old and he adjusted well just after one night and has slept through ever since then. we have a good night time routine of calming bath, bed time story and soothing night time lala tunes till he falls asleep. So this is out of the ordinary.

should i be concerned?
does this have any link to bi-polar, my brother has bi-polar and my husbands brother has bi-polar but i myself is clear and neither myself or my husband had any sleeping problems. I am just worried about what causes this and if it is something i am doing. I am very careful of not putting him to bed too tired and he is generally a healthy happy boy.

Night terrors are very common indeed at this age. Your little son seems to be healthy and happy. There is no link with bipolar disorders. You are doing all the right things. This is a passing phase. Go to your son when he wakes up with the night terror. Comfort him and reassure him and let him fall asleep again. Putting a night light in his room may be of help.
