Newborn not sleeping

My newborn is now 8 days old. He sleeps for 3 - 4 hours and then wakes up screaming for a bottle. I feed him, after which he is awake for another 2 hours before I can settle him down again. He is already drinking 100ml per feed, and I sometimes give him another 25ml after an hour or so to try to get him to sleep (bear in mind this often happens at 2 in the morning).

Is it normal for an 8 day old baby to be awake for so long?

When he sleeps, he is fidgity - he moves around quite a lot, makes little baby noises - is this normal?

I check his nappy often, so his restlessness is not attributed to a nappy, and should not be to hunger. Any ideas?

Your baby is being formula fed. His 3 hourly feeding is normal for a newborn baby. He seems to be rather hungry despite getting some extra formula at times. Try him on a formula which may be more satifying for him such as Lactogen1.

It isn''t usual for such a young baby to be awake so much. In the first two weeks they generally eat and sleep.

Does he have reflux or is the formula he''s on maybe causing tummy cramps?
