Q.

Newborn does not want water

Doctor

Our newborn (1 week) does not want to drink water.the sister at the hospitaal said that we need to give her boiled water that has cooled down for her Jaundice and lie in the sun in a nappy and maybe vest. She enjoy lying in the sun but she does not want to drink the water at all - is there something we should/can do or should we leave the water if she does not want it.She breatfeasts.

Do You do not need to give your baby any water.Be very careful about putting your baby in the sun.Ask the sister to check her jaundice again tommorrow.

You should not be giving your newborn baby water to drink.
Breastmilk has sufficient water for her needs.
If you give her water you will lessen the amount of breastmilk she drinks and your milk supply will then drop.
