It is best to wait until your bay is at least 3 months old. When flying make sure that he is feeding during take off and landing. Do not give your baby any medicines before flying.

You can fly with a baby at any age.
I flew with my son for the first time when he was 5 weeks old.

Babies cry on take off and even more on landing because of the pressure in their ears. Rather than panado or calpol, you should latch baby onto your breast during take off and landing as the sucking will help. If you are bottle feeding or use a dummy you could also let baby have a bottle or give him / her a dummy at these times.

Airlines aren' t supposed to charge you for taking your baby seat but they will often try, so be firm about it. Or, hire baby seat from Baby Lite (but you need to book at least two weeks in advance) so that you don' t have to travel wtih bulky baby equipment. I haven' t used them myself but I have heard good reports that their baby stuff is in good condition and the hiring charges are very reasonable.
