Q.

newborn and seizures

I have a 10 day old baby and she often blanks out... Is this normal? I''m just concerned about abscence seizures. She also sometimes has a shake in her leg. Am I just being paranoid or are these to be concerned about?

Staring into space for a few seconds can be normal in some newborns. However, newborns may have a form of absence seizures known as petit mal epilepsy. It is essential that your baby is seen by your paediatrician ASAP to make sure about this. While your baby may not have a problem it is best to be sure.
