Neocate and Medical Aid Funding

Hi there,

My daughter has been prescribed Neocate as she has been diagnosed with infant cow''s milk protein allergy and I think she also has bad reflux.

She was screaming as if she was in immense pain and wouldn''t sleep without me having to constantly rock her in my arms.

She was initially put onto Pepticate formula (moving on from Hipp Organic) and she showed a great improvement, but still cried at times in pain. My rocking her became less but I was still doing it. I then took her back to my Paed who put her onto Neocate.

She is much better now and a completely different baby. Shes happier and sleeps much longer than before.

The only problem that I am having is that Neocate is extremely expensive and I am battling to afford it. I have done a bit of reading on this forum with regard to Neocate and some people say that their medical aid has paid for it once their Paed has written a letter of motivation. I am with Discovery Health and was wondering if anybody who has their medical aid with them has had them pay for the Neocate?

Our little one is nearly 4 months now - I would like to know how much longer we can expect her to stay on Neocate, and will she eventually outgrow the cows milk protein allergy?

Paediatrician

Discovery will pay for your baby's Neocate. Your paediatrician has to write a letter giving the reason why your baby has to be on Neocate. It is important to mention in the letter that Neocate is the TREATMENT for your baby's cow's milk allergy and not just for her nutrition.<br>Your baby will need to be on Neocate until the age of 12 months at least. At that stage she should be tested again for cow's milk allergy.
