Q.

Naughty or Medical - pls pls help

Dear Doc, my little girl is now 21 months old and has always been very healthy. I understand she is now at the " picky eater"  stage and I have been doing my best to deal with it. On bad days I offer yoghurt in between meals to just ensure that she gets some nutrition.

She can self feed, but takes a very long time and almost never finishes her food. Sometimes chews and then spits it out. Over weekends I puree fruit or vegetables for her to make up what was lost at the day mother during the week.

My concern now is that she has started vomiting during or after meals. She gives a cough and then it''s just a big mess. She is not ill and sometimes finds the mess amusing. Which makes me wonder is it a volentary naughty streak or could it be medical.

I would so appreciate your advise, as I am drowning in vomit :-(

It does seem that your little girl is actively bringing up her food and seems to be enjoying seeing your dismay at her effort. You need to take the pressure and attention off your daughter and her eating. Let her join the family at the table at all mealtimes. She should sit in hre high chair. Put her food in front of her and give her a spoon. Let her feed herself. She will watch you eat and copy you. Do not look at her at all, completely ignore her. If she does not finish all her food do not say a word simply take the plate away. She will eat what she needs.
