napping 14month old

Hey Doc!
My 14mnth old boy, is now on a 3.5hourly routine, he''s awake for 3.5hours and supposed to take two naps of 1.5hours each. The problem though is, it''s fine if he wakes at 6.30, but sometimes he wakes at 8:00 only, which means his 1st nap is at 11:30 to 1pm and then the 2nd nap at 4h30 to 6 only, which is way too late, which means that bedtime will only be at 9h30. And i don''t always want to wake him as my husband works nightshift mostly and the domestic only gets too the house at 8am. So what happened this weekend, when he took his nap, i took a nap as well and 11:30 on saturday he slept until 14:30 and yesterday from 11:30 to 15:00, i was so shocked that he slept so long. I used to sleep through the night too, but last night i noticed that he nagged again for an whole hour from 2-3am. Could it be that the awake time is too long, so he''s overtired? And should i rather stick to the 3.5hourly routine, 2naps a day even if it means he goes to bed at 9:00/9:30. Or is the 1nap of say 3hrs fine, and he will eventually get used to it and sleep through again. Sorry for the long story. Thanking you.

At your baby's age you dont have to stick to a very tight routine any more. Perhaps the answer here would be to let your son only sleep once during the day now,so that he is tired in the evenings and will be able to sleep through once he has had supper and his bottle.
