How do I get my 8 year old son to stop biting his nails. I have tried talking and talking but nothing helps.

Thanks

This is an exteremely common habit. Like all habits in children, the more that you draw attention to the nail biting, the more you will reinforce this habit.Try your very best to completely and absolutely avoid any mention of his nail biting and make sure that his grandparents do not say anything either. Eventually he will simply stop, but it may take a long time for this to happen.

not sure if this will help, but i think i have a solution. I went to the dentist to have my teeth whitened. The dentist had to make me a mouth guard, a transparent rubber mould of my upper teeth, in which the whitening peroxide was placed. I merely just kept on wearing this mouth guard. this prevented me from biting my teeth. it' s been a week, and i have nails now.

just a thought, use it, don' t use it.

I do not agree with Doc cause i am 25 and still bite my nails simply becoz my parents did not do anything abt it. You should go to a pharmacy and ask for a stop and grow nail polish apparently it helps.
