Myth or truth?

Dear Doc

My daughter is learning to crawl, and my house is tiled throughout. Can she become ill by sitting on the cold tiles? She tends to crawl off the scatter rug in the lounge and sit on the cold tiles.

Also, if a baby has fever, will sleeping in an airconditioned room make baby more ill? I would think that it will cool baby down, but some people have the view that aircons are often to blame for baby' s getting sick?

Thank you.

Your baby can certainly crawl on the tiles, this will not make her ill.
Aircons are fine as long as the filters are kept clean.

The worst a cold tiled floor will do to your baby is make her cold (which you can avoid by putting something warm on her), or be a bit harsh on the knees (you can put her in pants or leggings).
Cold doesn' t make you get a cold or get sick.

When you use an aircon, the windows are all closed, so all the germs remain inside and can recirculate, so fresh air or a fan would be better.
If baby has a temperature, just leave her in her nappy, there is no need to switch the aircon or fan on her.
Sponging her down with tepid water is helpful.
You can also give panado and/or ponstal.
