my baby& mdash & mdash & mdash & mdash -4 year old circumcised.

when I posted asking about circumcision on Monday, hubby was already taking in our 4 year old son to the docter, and circumcision was done, after wards he was OK, until yesterday afternoon, we had to take out the bandage and then after, all went bad!

the wound seems to be healing, though I wonder to myself if the skin taken out is not too much!

He is in so much pain, the doc prescribed myprodol and some pill I forgot the name but u put it through his anus, we ended up giving both at about 11:30 pm he could not sleep! I had to watch him going through such pain and I just regret letting hubby take him do this without finding much more information before hand!

I wonder if there is any much effective painkiller for a 4 year old, myprodol seems to not be good enough and the other pill is finished.

Myprodol is a strong analgesic. There are no stronger analgesics for children. Myprodol contains ibuprofen, paracetamol and codeine. In any case I am not happy about using codeine-containing analgesics in young children as they may cause constipation and dependency.

Mom, your son will get better soon. You will look back and agree this was best for him. His pain should subside really quick as the skin starts growing closed on the circumcision. First thing is keep his penis wrapped with gauze and make sure that you keep it clean for the first few days. Put Vaseline on the wound itself. Change the gauze every time he goes pee for the next few days. Once the stitches are out, then he will do much better. The stitches can hook on clothing or when he moves around it could be rubbing too. Keep up on the pain meds, but after about a week, it will be much easier as the wound is close to being healed and there will be no more pain at all.

After 10 days to two weeks he will be smiling again as will you. Once the wound has healed, gently pull back the remaining foreskin in the bath to ensure that the skin does not or has not adhered to the head of the penis. Vaseline does wonders. It was recommended when my son got circumcised as a newborn. Put it on for the first week to 10 days till the wound was completely healed and has never had any problems since.

Long term you and your husband did the right thing for your son. My only recommendation is having it done as a newborn. I was not circumcised and had many years of foreskin problems before being circumcised as a young adult. That was painful, but it did not last. The end result is certainly well worth it to both my wife and myself.

Things will get much better very quickly. Good luck
