My 2 yr old has a terrible temper

Hello doctor,

I have 2 yr 4 mth old triplets and i am concerned about my son. He has a terrible temper. He hits and bites himself and his siblings. He bangs his head and when he starting banging his head, his paed though it could be hydrocephalus, but it turned out not to be. He gets angry if he is tired, hungry and if he doesnt get his way. He doesnt really enjoy anything anymore. He use to love birds and kittens but recently he just wants to kick it or hit it. We give him lotsa attention even more than his siblings. Is it just terrible twos or could it be bipolar or adhd? What can we do to help him and how would we know if its terrible twos or something more serious?

Your son's behaviour is typical of the 'terrible two's'. All of your son's behaviour especially his head banging is typical of attention seeking behaviour. If he gets aggressive he must be taken to his room immediately and the door closed. He must stay in his room until he is quiet. His bad behaviour will stop if you are firm and take him to his room the minute he starts with his aggressive behaviour.
