Mumps again

HI doc, thanks so much for your response yesterday. However, last night I did notice a slight swelling on the one side of his face, and he does complain that his cheek and neck on that side is sore. He is still holding his head to one side.
He is a lot better, but I have not sent him to school, because it could well be mumps. Does this description indicate mumps? There has been no fever so far, and he is playing and jumping more, and is generally in good spirits.
Thanks millions, R

It does appear that your son has mumps. About 30% of children with mumps are virtually free of symptoms, although your son has been complaining about a sore neck. He cannot go to school for nine days from the time that the swelling in his neck first appears.Did he have the MMR vaccination at 15 months? This should have protected him against getting mumps.
