Mozzie Bites

Hi Professor,

My 15 month old has been bitten by mozzies in about 20 places. They are swollen and red and he has one on his eye which has caused his eye to slightly close.

What can I put on the bites and can I give an anti-histamine?

Thank you.

You can put calamine lotion on the bites, but not on the one on his eyelid. Give him an antihistamine syrup once daily to reduce the swellings. Ask your pharmacist for Allecet syrup 2.5ml [half a teaspoonful] once daily. You only need a small bottle of Allecet.

Hi, you can put on calamine lotion (you can get it in pick& pay / shoprite / spar there where the eculaptus oil and that stuff are). It is pink liquid, it really does help, you will see a difference after one day. You can put it on regularly, not only three times a day. I use it on my children because their bites also become swollen very badly. Good luck.
