Q.

Mouthsores on 4 yr old

My child was diagnosed with chronic sinusitis this month ( sept) and two months back i noticed that his mouth was very dry and it later developed sores. The Pead said i should just apply vaseline, the dryness is probably caused by him breathing through the mouth all the time. I' m worried he used to have such beautiful lips. What can i apply to his sores or to stop them, they arent that bad though but I' m just woried. And secondly what can i give him so that he can gain weight , i think he only weighs 16 kg , i feel its too little for a 3yr 10 months old boy.

You are correct, your son's mouth sores result from him mouth breathing all the time. You need to find and treat the cause of his mouth breathing which may be enlarged adenoids or a nasal allergy problem. Please take him to see an ENT specialist so that you can get a proper diagnosis of his problem. In the meantime use zinc cream on his lips at night only to try and heal his sores
