You have given an excellent description of your little son's mouth infection. He no longer has herpes stomatitis, but now appears to have a severe thrush [candida] infection of his mouth and tongue. The odd thing is that this thrush infection has not responded to the Mycostatin oral solution. This usually works very well. Try Daktarin oral gel and see if this helps to clear the thrush. If it is not better after 5 days your son should be seen by a doctor.
