Q.

Mom4boys

Dr me and my mom had an argument today regarding the amount of meds I give my sons...Both suffer from allergies, so they are both on the full house of chronic meds for allergies! She says that in the ' old days'  children also had coughing, croup ect., but they got well without all this antihistamines and cortisone and steroids....She made me feel very guilty and paranoid because ' Im giving my children all these meds. I almost NEVER give them over the counter meds...all their meds are prescribed by the same Pead. She then said that she is sure my kids are being so sick because their bodies are so hooked and used to all the meds that they can not fight any illness and that I musn' t cry if they get kidney failure because of all the meds. I feel very guilty and worried at the moment, I' m just trying to do what is best for my kids! Could you shed some light on this matter....Thanx

This is a very good question. Your children attend a paediatrician and have been diagnosed as having allergies and require medicines to control their illnesses. Allergic illnesses are the most common chronic illnesses of children all over the world. None of the medicines you give will weaken your child's immune system or cause kidney failure. They are required so that your children are able to have a good quality of life.Your Mom is wrong to speak you like this and make you feel guilty.
