mixed feeding

Hi Doc

my daugther is two weeks old and she is having trouble pooing. everytime she wants to poo she cires as if her tummy is cramping. could it be that i am both breast feeding and giving her formula (nan)? I was topping her up with formulae because after feeds she was still not satisfied. i currently feed her for about 30 to 40 mins breast milk and top her up with 60ml formula.

i try to feed her as much breast as possible but it seems as if she is taking in more formula...

is there a way for me to continue feeding her both without causing her difficulty when passing stools?

It is almost certain that your baby daughter's constipation is due to the formula feed. It does not seem to be necessary for her to be on a formula feed as she is probably getting enough breast milk. The important thing to know is whether she is gaining weight or not. It may be a good idea for your to attend a breast feeding clinic with your daughter so that you will have a definite answer about the amount of breast milk she is getting.
