Q.

Middle ear infection

Hallo,im sure lots of moms have posted about this already! My lg is 4.5 years old and she stays at home with me in holiday times, and for the first time in her life this past 2 weeks she had a middle ear infection,i took her to the Dr the 2nd day of complaining about her ear,and he said she had blisters and a little bleeding already in her ear!!(this only the second day).she got antibiotics.4 days later,i thought she was better, but the afternoon she suddenly had a fever,so i phoned the Dr,it was a sunday,he said to bring her in to the Practise(we do not live in the city,so luckily we can still do this here on weekends when a Dr is on duty). It was a other Dr from the same Practise!Anyway he had a look, and he said it looks like her eardrum is infected to,since it has little clusters or something on,and very red!He gave other antibiotics.Today its 12 days, and last night she cried again about pain in her ear.Up until yesterday her ear pains about 3 times a day,no fever.Sooooooo,im not familiar with ear infections,so i dont know if this is normal still. What should i do now?I cant take her to the Dr again for more Ab`s,that will be a 3 rd round then!!It must surely be better by now?The nearest Peadiatrician(ours) is 90km`s away,so its not just a get up and go thing for us!Can you please advise me,thank you!

You have set your problem out very well. As your daughter's ear infection has not responded to two courses of antibiotics the possibility is that she has a severe virus infection of her ear. The blisters on the drum would support this diagnosis.I am reluctant to send you for yet another opinion in view of the distances involved, but your daughter really should be seen by an ENT specialist as soon as possible.
