Q.

MENINGITIS VACCINE

I am a bit concerned about this meningitis outbreak. My 2 yr old boy had all his vaccinations including the Prevenar. My daughter is now turning 5. I took her for the prevenar, well they told me it is almost like a generic of prevenar, last year some time. I phoned them today to ask if the vaccine my daughter received last year covers against meningitis. They told me no, but I should bring her for the Meningitis vaccine they now offer due to the recent outbreak. Could you please give me more clarity regarding this new meningitis vaccine and how safe it is. Thank you.

The vaccine is safe and is a vaccine against meningococcal meningitis not pneumococcal meningitis. The vaccine is recommended.
