Q.

measles and still breastfeeding

Hi There

I have the measles virus and my 10 month old baby is still breastfeeding exclusively. Should i be concerned about him getting the virus. He is up to date with his vaccinations and he received his measles vaccination at 9 months.

Your baby should be protected against measles as he has been immunised.This usually takes 10 to 14 days after the injection to develop. As his immunisation was 1 month ago he should be protected against measles by now.

The antibodies contained in your breastmilk mean that he is also getting protection from your body fighting the measles.
