Hi Dr, I just want to find out as to what causes Measles and what are the symptoms? My son is three years old and goes to creche. Yesterday when he came back he had very small rash all over his body and face and i thought it was an allergic reaction to something he ate. I took him a little bit earlir today and the Teacher adviced me to have him checked for measles? he also has runny nose and a cough. How contagious is measleas as I also have an 18 months old who stays at home with the Nanny?

Your 3 year old son has had two immunisations against measles, at 9 months and again at 15 months. It is unlikely that he would get measles. It is possible that his rash was an allergic reaction or even more likely a heat rash.Children are usually very ill with measles which is caused by a virus and is highly infectious.
