Q.

Lymph glands

Hi Professor,

My four year old son has lymph glands in his neck, just down from his ear. He has had tonsillitis twice before. Could this be because of that infection? It feels like there are two glands and you can actually see the lumps in his neck. Do they go down on their own or should he have a Full Blood Count to check it out?

Thank you.

The glands you have noticed behind your son's ear are enlarged lymph glands. The most likely cause is an ear infection or possibly a throat infection that he had previously. These glands take ages to go down but fortunately appear to be without any need for concern in this position.
