Q.

Lump on Neck

Hi,

My 5 year old son started developing a fever over the weekend and complained about neck pain. He now has an egg sized lump on his neck behind his ear.

What could this be?

It is difficult to be sure about your son's neck swelling without being able to see him. The most likely cause is an enlarged lymph gland possibly due to a recent ear or throat infection. As the swelling is rather large and your son had a fever recently it is possible that he has developed an abscess in this lymph gland. It would be best to ask your doctor to see him.
