Q.

Losec

By 14 week old baby was prescribed 5mg Losec for reflux, which implies that the tablet needs to be halved. The medical aid only pays for generics, so I got DRL-Omeprazole 10mg. This is however granules in a capsule, and much more tricky to half. My question is whether I can give 10mg per day, as she still has reflux symptoms when given only 5mg is used.

The omeprazole [Losec etc] only stops the acid, not the actual reflux. If your baby is still refluxing a lot she will need additional treatment. The dose is of omeprazole is correct. Do not use more than half of the casule. Open the capsule up and pour out the contents. Divide into two equal halves and give one half dose per day.
