Liquid enema

Good day Doc

I want to know how save is a liquid enema for children? My son has a very long history of constipation. He went for an operation, was tested for Hirshprungs Disease etc. and laxatives don' t really work well enough anymore. I gave him a liquid enemy when he started complaining about stomach ache and had a temperature of 40. With experience I knew that he is completely blocked again. The enemy work very well withing minutes and he was happy again. I don' t want to give him an enemy every week/month, but it seems to work alot better that the Movicol the doctor prescribed

Thank you

You cannot continue using a liquid enema every week or even every month for your son. What is needed is a proper diagnosis of the cause of his very severe constipation. He should be seen, examined and tested by a paediatric gastro-enterologist. There are specialists in all the main centres in SA.
