Lactose Intolerant?

Hi Professor,

My son is 1y9m and has been on anti biotics for the past month. He went onto Augmaxcil on 22/03 for an ear infection. This did not seem to clear up and he was put on Klarithran on 07/04 for an upper airway infection. This was finished on 14/04 and on 15/04 he started with a cough and a post nasal drip. He also snores at night but his adenoids and tonsils are not swollen. Could it be that he might have an allergy to the full cream cows milk that I am giving him?

He drinks about 4 x 250ml bottles a day. I exclusively breast feed him for 5 months and then introduced Lactogen. He has an older 4 year old brother who does bring home sicknesses from creche and my youngest son, who stays at home, always seems to have a mucous problem.

Thank you for your input.

It is certainly possible that your son is allergic to cow's milk.Try him on a very strict milk and dairy free diet for at least 5 days and see if he improves. You can substitute his milk by using soya milk and soya yoghurt.Use saline nose drops or spray to clear his blocked nose.
