Lactose Intolerance

Dear Doc,

Our 4 month old baby is extremely difficult at night time. It is as if she has winds but nothing comes out when you burp her. She is breastfed. A Pharmacist said that it might be a minor Lactose Intolerance which causes gasses to build up in her colon. She gave us a product that is new on the market called Colix. This apparently puts enzymes in the colon stopping the gass build up, but it does not seem to work. She is however 100% happy during the day and sleep very well. I feel helpless and obviously tired and need to know what this could be and what can be done?

Lactose intolerance is a possibility although the fact that your baby is alright during the day does not fit the picture. It will do no harm to try her on a lactose free formula such as NAN LF or S26LF and see if she is better.
