Lactogen and vomiting

My son (9 months old) was placed on Novalac IT because of constipation on S26 Gold 2. I' ve been mixing it with one third Lactogen as he is a hungry baby. His stools improved considerably, but he started vomiting every now and then. This weekend he had a bout of diarrhea and vomiting, and I decided to give him the Lactogen alone and it resulted in stomach cramps and projectile vomiting. I then put him back on S26 and it stayed in with no problem. It now seems as though the Lactogen is the culprit in the vomiting? Have you had any experience with this?

A second question - I did a literature search and it seems the major difference between Novalac IT and standard formulae is the the prior has a higher magnesium content. Can I use the S26 Gold and add 25% milk of magnesia? oh, before I forget - LO had pyloric stenosis at 3 weeks, had surgery and no further problems until now.

Thanx for your input.

This is a difficult question to answer because there are several possibilities that may explain your baby's symprtoms. He seems to be allergic to Lactogen, but I am at a loss as to why he can tolerate the S26 if he is allergic to the Lactogen which is also a cow's milk formula. He does not appear to have a lactose intolerence problem as he can tolerate other milk formulas and also does not appear to be refluxing as he is fine on S26.
You should not add milk of magnesia to your baby's formula. He should stay on Novalac IT as this was helping his constipation and give him more in the way of solids if he is hungry.
