Lack of interest in usual food

Afternoon Doc

My son is 17 months old and does not have that many teeth as yet, so his diet is very limited. His diet consists mainly of cooked veggies and protein.

Lately he does not seem to have an appetite to eat those foods but in the mornings he will take his cereal without a fuss. When it comes to lunchtime and suppertime he will really prolong his eating, he will keep the food in his mouth until it makes him gag.

It is difficult to be sure about the reason for your son's temporary loss of appetite. The most likely reason is that more teeth are coming through especially his molars. Apply a teething gel to his gums where his new teeth may be appearing soon.Your son will eat what he needs at this time and he should soon be back to having a good appetite when his teeth have come through.
