Croup is very common indeed at this age. It is usually caused by a virus infection of the larynx [the voicebox]Croup can certainly occur again and often does. Your son's paediatrician will advise the correct treatment to use in case he gets croup again. It may be a good idea to get hold of a nebuliser in order to be able to use a special inhalation called Pulmicort for short periods.

My son also suffers from Croup. There isn''t anything you can do to prevent it except to try not to let him get sick. Yes it can re-occur. The treatment for it is normally cortisone and nebuliser.
